The idea of a community radio station was ignited in 1993 by a group of young men from the Koinonia Community Centre who wanted to use radio media to build bridges and demystify access to radio in the broader communities of Paarl, Wellington and the surrounding farming areas.

By sheer determination, strong faith and long hours of hard work, Radio KC (Koinonia Community) was registered as a Section 21 Company and started broadcasting on 24 September 1996.  The significance of this date is that Radio KC, in relation to National Heritage Day, has a strong heritage of cross-culture community building, youth development, empowerment and edutainment.

The station’s vison is to be the leading community radio station and the team continuously thrive to achieve this through quality programmes on the radio and their participation programmes with community organizations.
